2011 Youth Empowerment Retreat Initiative Announces Calendar of Events
Year-long series of events and activities address issues for youth and families
(Baltimore, MD)- 2011 has been proclaimed “The Year of The Youth” in Baltimore and the state of Maryland, and to celebrate, the public is invited to attend a series of events, conferences, symposiums and activities to open a dialogue, present information, problem-solve, share successes, strategies and tips-all designed to empower, motivate, encourage, enlighten and energize youth and parents through knowledge, education and opportunity.
The purpose of the “2011 Youth Empowerment RETREAT” (YER) Initiative is to address the chronic problems that youth and their parents have been facing and organizers are looking to go beyond the traditional to develop a new model that address issues of truly empowering our youth to take on leadership positions and then provide them with actual opportunities to apply their new-found knowledge.
Spearheaded and coordinated by Dr. Tekemia Dorsey of The Creative GRP, LLC, The 2011 Youth Empowerment Retreat Initiative is designed to be all-inclusive, participatory and above-all, thought-provoking, forward-thinking and action-driven. “It’s not enough to just come together and talk about the issues,” said Dr. Dorsey, a tireless advocate for youth who brings her years of experience to planning and coordinating this effort. “We have to identify the problems and bring light to the issues that are facing our youth, yes. But the most important thing is to identify ways that we’re going to get active and deal with the problems to create solutions. That’s why it’s so important for us to cultivate leadership qualities in our youth today.”
To that end, each of the activities and events that are planned are designed to build upon each other and include youth, parents and community organizations as integral and active participants. Registration is now open for all events, with vending and promotional opportunities available as well. For additional information on any of the events listed below, visit http://www.thecreativegrp.org for complete details and to register.
